Aberdeen pride…where we know them, show them, and grow them!

Aberdeen Elementary School is committed to offering a challenging and supportive school program for all of our kindergarten through fifth grade students. Our continuing goal is to prepare students with the vital knowledge and skills they will need for success, while at the same time encouraging creativity, curiosity, and a life-long appreciation for learning.

The academic program at Aberdeen reflects state curricular frameworks as well as district-adopted standards in the core curricular areas of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. We believe learning is a journey. Students progress through their journey at different paces. The statewide SOL testing program is one measure that we use at Aberdeen to gauge the progress of our students in their journey. In addition to the SOL tests, teachers use a variety of other assessment tools in the classroom, including reading level tests, writing portfolios, research projects and a cumulative collection of student work samples. The results from these assessments are used to differentiate the instruction for individual students to ensure we meet them where they are and guide them forward in their learning.

Aberdeen is also actively practicing the PBIS Initiative, which promotes positive behavior intervention system practices. Over 8 schools in Hampton City Schools are participating in the PBIS Initiative, and Aberdeen is very proud to have been positively impacted by this wonderful program.

We are deeply proud of the partnerships we have with our Aberdeen Families and our community. The commitment of our community to work together to support and enhance the learning experience of ALL students is evident when you visit our school. Parents volunteer on a regular basis in classrooms, the office, and for special programs. Our Parent Teacher Association plays a vital role in this partnership.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to support our students in their journey as learners. If you have questions about our school, please feel free to contact us by phone, or in person.
